Accountability and comprehensive and meaningful assessments are integral part of making standards work

Standards must be • High • Place emphasis on the need for technology literacy, student collaboration, and higher order thinking skills o Students must be able to explain or justify their answers o Students must be able to analyze and synthesize informal o Students must be able to apply general principles to new and unfamiliar information

Standards-based approach begins with the premise that all students can learn and achieve at high levels—but that does not imply that all students learn in the same way and at the same pace
